Muerte y ultratumba en las inscripciones romanas de Asturias

The funerary world of Roman Asturias includes a number of elements directly connected with life beyond the tomb. Astral representations, in particular the solar disc, are connected both with early life and life beyond the tomb; they signal the daily regeneration that the sun is responsible for, both for the living and the dead. Other motifs, like the inclusion of epitaphs in house-like frames or animal and vegetal representations (especially horses and palms) can be explained by the need to recover life and activity by means of the sun.El mundo funerario de la Asturias romana encubre una serie de elementos relacionados directamente con la vida de ultratumba. Las representaciones astrales, en especial el disco solar, se vincularían tanto con la vida terrenal como con la del más allá, apuntando a esa regeneración diaria que el nacimiento del sol implica, tanto para los vivos como para los muertos. Otros motivos, como la inclusión de los epitafios en cartelas en forma de casa o las figuraciones zoomorfas (caballos sobre todo) y vegetales (la palma) se inscriben en esa necesidad de recuperar de nuevo la vida y sus actividades sirviéndose de la ayuda del sol
