Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease. Some scientific evidence exists implicating infectious agents as triggers of the disease. The parvovirus B19 has also been implicated in rheumatoid arthritis in adults, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (associated with HLA B27), vasculitis, lupus, histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (Kikuchi's disease), systemic sclerosis, uveitis, myositis, and other rheumatologic diseases.
