Prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade em escolares de 6 a 8 anos da rede pública da cidade de Paranavaí

Obesity is considered a public health problem in developed countries; the OMS highlights obesity as a global epidemic. The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence of overweight and obesity among school children in the public education of Paranavaí-PR. The sample was comprised by 40 children, 23 males and 17 females, aged between 6-8 years. It was analyzed anthropometric variables of body mass index, waist circumference and body fat percentage and to classify the IMS it was used the protocol of Conte and Miller (2006), for the PC it was used the protocol of Fernández (2004) and the percentage of fat it was used the protocol of Lohman (1986). In analyzing the data we used descriptive statistics: average, standard deviation and percentage. The results showed that in relation to body fat percentage 72.5% is at an optimum level but 27.5% were changed up in this variable. In relation to IMC it was noted that 67.5% are at normal levels, however 32.5% were overweight and it was not found any obese individuals. In the variable PC 82.5% of the students are at optimal level, while 17.5% are in the warning zone and / or risk. One can consider that the boys had higher rates than girls in the variables of BMI and PC with an average of 16.58 ± 2.23 and 54.99 ± 3.81, since the girls had levels of 16.49 ± 1 48 and 52.98 ± 3.91, between both the percentile variable fat girls averaged 23% ± 0.08% and boys 16 ± 0.04. It was concluded that the data from this study are worrying, and that the excess weight in childhood is a risk indicator that may lead to future health problems.O objetivo do estudo foi identificar a prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade em escolares da rede pública da cidade de Paranavaí-PR. A amostra foi composta por 40 crianças sendo, 23 do gênero masculino e 17 do feminino, com faixa etária entre 6 a 8 anos. Foram analisadas as variáveis antropométricas de índice de massa corporal, perímetro de cintura e percentual de gordura, para classificar o IMC utilizou-se o protocolo de Conte e Monteiro (2006), para o PC foi utilizado o protocolo de Fernández (2004) e para o de percentual de gordura foi utilizado o protocolo de Lohman (1986). Para a análise dos dados utilizou-se a estatística descritiva: média, desvio padrão e percentual. Os resultados apontaram que em relação ao percentual de gordura 72,5% do total investigado encontrase em nível ótimo, já 27,5% obtiveram alteração para cima nesta variável. Com relação aos índices de IMC notou-se que 67,5% da população estudada estão em nível normal, entretanto 32,5% estão com excesso de peso (não foi notificado nenhum caso de obesidade). Na variável PC 82,5 dos escolares estão em nível ótimo, enquanto 17,5% encontram-se na área de alerta e/ou risco. Pode-se considerar que os meninos obtiveram índices maiores que as meninas nas variáveis de IMC e PC com média de 16,58 ± 2,23 e 54,99 ± 3,81, já as meninas tiveram índices de 16,49 ± 1,48 e 52,98± 3,91, entre tanto na variável percentil de gordura as meninas tiveram em média 23% ± 0,08 e os meninos 16% ± 0,04. Conclui-se que os dados do presente estudo são preocupantes, tento em vista que o excesso de peso na infância é um indicador de risco que podem acarretar futuros problemas de saúde
