The cult to Mithras in Asturian territory during Antiquity can only be properly understood within the wider expansion of Oriental cults in the Iberian Peninsula. As a divinity linked to salvation and afterlife, its functions are visible in a world linked to the army and to religions of an oriental and mysteric nature. The still scarce amount of documen ts on Mithras makes it difficult to establish the cult area, the stages of development or its social aspects.
