This article is a proposal for the use of literary sub-genre of the legend as a means for the study of Geography and its dissemination. The first stage involved the analysis of the subgenus taking its origin, elements, characteristics and importance. The second test was performed several legends to identify components for geographic understanding of space, society and the environment.
