The goal of this article is to discuss the question of the history and culture of subjectivities with respect to the suicide pact and euthanasia, two possible ways of dealing with �love and its problems.� These two themes are analyzed by focusing on two novels of the Viennese writer Arthur Schnitzler, Dying (Sterben) and Flight into Darkness (Flucht in die Finsternis).
