Executive functions include a group of cognitive abilities that aim to help the individual adapt to new and complex situations. A variety of skills are included among the executive functions such as abilities of goal formation, carrying out goal-directed plans, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, self-monitoring, and verbal fluency. This article aims at reviewing the development of executive functions from infancy to adulthood.
