The study analyzes the roles that children give to television; the sample included children from 9 to 11 years old from the private educational institution "Sagrado Corazón de Jesús" in the city of Juliaca. There was applied the exploratory research method and it was based in the analysis of relationship of children with television in their homes. Forty-one children made the study group with access to television with open signal. The collection of data was made with surveys as technique and questionnaires as instrument. The information collected shows that television has the role of companionship when the children are alone at home or as promoter of familiar encounters.
