The text analyzes and describes the cross-border cultural and identity-building experiences of Argentinean and Peruvian immigrants of Japanese descent residing in Okinawa and referred to as Nikkeis, in relation to the hegemonic construction of national identity in the Japanese state. Such an analysis makes it possible to explain the way in which Nikkei immigrants cut across complex relations among excluding and/or juxtaposed categories, such as �foreigner�, �Japanese�, �Okinawan�, �Latino�, or �Nikkei�.
