Salome is the dance, the irresistible temptation. Herodias� daughter becomes an universal literary character thanks to the art of Flaubert and, above all, to Oscar Wilde´s creations. At the beginning of his tragic play, Salome´s figure fuses with the moon, eager for death. The work was translated and performed in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century, and in 1910 Strauss's opera based on it was staged. This circumstance allows to see the relationship between Wilde´s Salome and the moon, a mortal dancer, in the first poem of Romancero gitano by García Lorca.
