Alcance de las actividades turísticas y recreativas en los espacios naturales del Hinterland de Ushuaia � Tierra del Fuego - Argentina

The Extent of Tourism and Recreational Activities on the Natural Areas of the Hinterland of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The practice of recreational and tourist activities in natural areas has had an important growth. Global trends indicate that a steady increase on the demand of visitors interested in natural areas with contemplative purposes and activities related with nature contact has been detected during the last years. Ushuaia is not the exception to this trend; its hinterland is the scenery for the practices of tourists and residents. This scenery is not only the main physical support but also its attractiveness and set down of user�s expectations. This article intends to recognize the preferences and requirements related to its public use. Two aspects were taken into account in order to systematize the information: the use of qualitative and quantitative techniques. The user information was obtained by means of surveys and direct observation on the identified sites; the characteristics of these sites were obtained through the implementation of field observation. Also, the methodology involves the use of a Geographical Information System (GIS) to analyze the spatial extent of recreational and/or tourism activities. Results indicate that the selection of the site is based on several factors and/or values, depending on the precedence of the users.La práctica de actividades recreativas y turísticas en ámbitos naturales tiene un auge creciente, las tendencias a nivel mundial indican que en los últimos años se ha registrado un aumento sostenido de la demanda de visitantes interesados en espacios naturales con fines contemplativos y de actividades en contacto con la naturaleza. Ushuaia, Argentina, no escapa a esta tendencia; su hinterland es escenario de las prácticas de turistas y residentes, configurándose espacialmente como soporte físico a la vez que como atractivo y depositario de las expectativas de los usuarios. Este estudio tiene como objeto conocer las preferencias y requerimientos relacionados con su uso público. Para ello se requirió la aplicación de técnicas cuali y cuantitativas, para lo cual fue necesario sistematizar la información considerando dos aspectos, por un lado la información de los usuarios que se obtuvo mediante la concreción de encuestas en los sitios identificados y la observación directa y, por otro, las características de los sitios de uso fueron obtenidas mediante la implementación de relevamientos. Asimismo, la metodología contempló el uso de un Sistema de Información Geográfico (SIG), que permite analizar espacialmente el alcance de las actividades recreativas y/o turísticas. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la elección del sitio de uso se asienta sobre diferentes factores y/o valores según la procedencia de los usuarios
