This papers presents a compilation of documents related to the concept of competence, its evolution through time and the different meanings of this term. The concept of competence is not new and it is nowadays starting to be widely used in the didactic guidelines of the educational systems, in what is known as the competence-based curriculum. The notion of competence has several meanings in the educational context, depending on the pedagogical approach taken, either from a constructivist or a positivist perspective.
