Competencias para un mundo cognoscente

This papers presents a compilation of documents related to the concept of competence, its evolution through time and the different meanings of this term. The concept of competence is not new and it is nowadays starting to be widely used in the didactic guidelines of the educational systems, in what is known as the competence-based curriculum. The notion of competence has several meanings in the educational context, depending on the pedagogical approach taken, either from a constructivist or a positivist perspective. In this context the concept is viewed from a new pedagogical approach in which competence should incorporate the following actions: being, doing and knowing, which would then add a more human consideration to the concept of competence, contrary to what has been known as hard competence introduced by a Fordian system of production. It is of vital importance to look into the origin of competences and their cognitive implications, as well as into whether they are innate or acquired, whether they are changeable or unchangeable, and whether they have a place, where is that place? It is intended to analyse here situations related to the notion of competence and its scope with the aim of proving its possibilities in training processes. Also the Anglo-Saxon, French and holistic perspectives have their own, unique ways to consider, in theory and in praxis, the notion of competence, which shows that a thorough research on the concept needs to be undertaken.El presente trabajo corresponde a una recopilación documental que se relaciona con el concepto de competencia, su evolución en el tiempo y las diversas acepciones de dicho vocablo. El concepto de competencia no es nuevo y en la actualidad está entrando con fuerza en los lineamientos didácticos de los sistemas educativos, en lo que se llama el currículo basado en competencias. La concepción de competencia posee distintos significados en el contexto educativo, dependiendo del enfoque pedagógico en que se plantee, sea desde una corriente constructivista o una corriente positivista. En dicho contexto se mira el concepto desde un nuevo planteamiento didáctico, en el que competencia debe incorporar el hacer, el ser y el saber, lo que en definitiva estaría incorporando una mirada más humana al concepto de competencia, contraria a lo que se ha conocido como competencia dura introducida por un sistema fordiano de producción. Es de vital importancia indagar respecto del origen de las competencias y sus implicaciones cognitivas, también a si éstas son innatas o adquiridas, si son mutables o inmutables, si son residentes ¿dónde residen? En este estudio se intenta analizar situaciones relacionadas con la idea de competencia y sus alcances, con el propósito de verificar sus posibilidades en procesos de formación. También la vertiente anglosajona, la francesa y la holística presentan sus propias y singulares formas de plantear, en la teoría y en la praxis, la idea de competencia, lo cual implica que se debe realizar una minuciosa investigación relativa a tal concepto
