Un estudio sobre la flora ornamental de Sicilia occidental (provincias de Palermo, Trápani y Agrigento) ha puesto de manifiesto que el 22% de las especies or-namentales utilizadas en los parques y jardines de esta región (158 de un total de 633 especies) proceden de América.
