The 2007 recession is considered the worst economic downturn in the post-war era of the United States (US), because it resulted in the highest number of unemployed people since 1948. While this might be viewed as an extreme event, studies addressing this type of economic fluctuation are still relevant, because the US has experienced, on average, at least one official recession or depression every decade.
