The Rural Revolution

From an overall point of view, there are reciprocal influences in the contact of rural and urban subcultures . At the same time that the village is being urbanized, peasantization of the towns appears to be taking place. The rural migrant brings with him marry cultural traits which are only slowly being modified in the urban environrnent. In turn, he, partly by the pressure of numbers, causes changes in the urban scene not only in the obvious degradation of certain urban facilities but also in changing social relationships and life. Styles which may or may not be linked with political revolution. Housing is an immediately evident case, with shanty town dwellings and more permanent types pf private or semiprivate houses carrying over many rural architectural patterns. In many new industrial towns in Yugoslavia, for example, privately owned brick and concrete houses have been built which are identical in style to those found in villages
