Ritual and Social Structure in a Macedonia Village

Data from this paper on research carried out in 1932-1933 in the district of Poretch in Yugoslavia Macedonia. Most of the research is in the village of Voltche with 31 families and a population of 170. Here I had the opportunity to study a tradition peasant society not affected by modern society. This monograph deals specifically with the ways a religion contributes to group cohesion and integration of the village community in a traditional peasant society. An attempt is made to detail some of the social functions of religion by focusing analysis on the relation between organization of the ritual activities and social structure of the community.Obrebski\u27s work can also be found in Anthropology of Continuity and Change.
