Research on silicon photonics packaging remains relatively stagnant in comparison to the immense research on the applications of silicon photonics. This thesis examines and develops a novel electronic package using wire bonds and solders to keep pace with new silicon photonic devices that operate at very high frequencies. The package design is based on a single dielectric substrate to eliminate unnecessary electrical discontinuities within a transmission line, thus maximizing RF bandwidth. Soldered RF connectors on the fabricated circuit boards are then characterized for simulating the final electronic package with wire bonds.
