On a daily basis, we are exposed to a wide variety of chemicals, such as flame retardants and plasticizers, that are incorporated into consumer products. Even at low doses, some of these chemicals have been found to disrupt the body's endocrine system, these are known as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). Due to the ubiquity of these substances, it is important to monitor our potential exposure to EDCs through diet. With this in mind, a multiclass extraction method was developed, optimized and validated for Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs), Dechloranes, Organophosphate esters (OPEs) and their metabolites (mOPEs).
