The concept of trust has been studied by a large number of scholars from various scientific backgrounds. Trust has showed to play a major role in social relations, organizations, political systems, economic transactions and even in human-computer interaction. Many scholars appear united with respect to the importance of trust in human affairs. Blau (1964, p. 99) argues that trust is "essential for stable social relationships". Hirsch (Hosmer, 1995, p. 379) refers to trust as a "public good", necessary for the success of many economic transactions.
