This paper is a pilot study that investigates how the use of virtual learning environment can enhance or support assessment for learning mathematics by the KS4 students with special education needs in school sector, and then reports the finding. A virtual learning environment is an electronic system that can provide online interaction of various kinds that can take place between learners and tutors, including online learning and assessment (JISC, 2003). It is a learning platform that supports teaching and learning programmes, such as AfL (assessment for learning).
