Communication without Words illustrates how the study of infant observation can facilitate working with unverbalized aspects of the eating-disordered child. This part of the child is shown through the child's gestures, glances, play, drawings and dreams, accompanied by the emotional states received through use of the psychotherapist's countertransference. Work with the non-moving, silent child aged 7 to 18 has received little attention in the literature on eating disorders.
