What impact does Kenya’s Logistics Performance Have on its Global Trade Competitiveness

The aim of this study is to explore the dynamics of Kenya’s global trade competitiveness from the perspective of logistical performance. The study looks to understand the extent to which Kenya’s logistics performance is impacting its ability to facilitate trade through the economy. Kenya is currently ranked number 42 in World Bank's LPI index, however research has revealed that the country is still plagued by poor transport infrastructure, a slow, bureaucratic customs procedure and a lack of technological investment in logistics operations. In order to achieve this aim, a mixed method approach was used, whereby port throughput was used as a proxy measure of trade competitiveness; for qualitative data port users were interviewed to provide a current perspective of how these logistical factors are affecting their ability to trade through the port; and for quantitative data descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation method were implemented. The study findings identified a strong positive and negative connection between port throughput and the logistical factors.
