The capillary pumped loops (CPL) or loop heat pipes (LHP), whom the operating principle is similar to classic heat pipes, enable an efficient heat transfer between a hot source and a cold source without additional energy sources. Indeed, a porous structure provides a capillary force that enables a two-phase fluid to circulate around the loop, transferring the heat from the evaporator to the condenser. The porous structure acts as a hydraulic barrier between the two phases and as a thermal barrier enabling the liquid evaporation. The ability of the capillary structure to fulfil its mission depends on its microstructure, and thus on the manufacturing process.
