Background and aim: Accumulating evidence indicates that vagus nerve signaling through nicotinic receptors (nAChRs) negatively modulates the inflammatory and immune responses in various clinical and experimental conditions, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), purportedly through a spleen-dependent pathway.
