International audienceThe commentary of the Book of Jonah by Saint Jerome has influenced a lot of writings, including the Glossa ordinaria. In order tio understand how this text from the 4th century has modified the iconography of the minor prophet, this paper studies both the formal and textual sources of his figurative representations. The most common episodes of the story are successively analysed: Jonah thrown into the mouth of the fish, leaving the animal, and before Nineveh. For Saint Jerome, Jonah is a figure of Christ, especially in his death and resurrection.
