Amphitruo vs. Amphitryon: la ripresa molieriana della tragicommedia di Plauto

Abstract. Plautus’ Amphitruo was not only successful in ancient times, but has been largely imitated in following literatures, both ancients and moderns. A special attention deserves Molière’s Amphitryon, not the first French version, but doubtless the most important. The paper compares the Latin text with the French one and highlights similarities and differences in themes – particularly the double theme -, structure, characters and stage effects (metatheatre). While closely following the main outline of the Plautine story, Molière introduces some significant innovations, in order to create a brilliant and lively comedy, well suited to the taste and conventions of the French theatre of his age. L’ Amphitruo di Plauto ebbe grande successo nell’antichità ed è stato ampiamente imitato nelle letterature successive, anche moderne. Particolare attenzione merita senza dubbio l’ Amphitryon di Molière, certo non la prima versione francese, ma senza dubbio la più importante. Il saggio mette a confronto il testo latino con quello francese, evidenziando similarità e differenze nelle tematiche- il tema del doppio in particolare - , nella struttura, nei personaggi e negli effetti scenici (il metateatro). Pur seguendo da vicino le linee principali della commedia plautina, Molière introduce alcune significative innovazioni, così da creare una pièce vivace e brillante, adatta al gusto e alle convenzioni del teatro francese del suo tempo
