Intermittent exposure to the same stressor can lead to a gradual decline in physiological, neuroendocrine and behavioral stress responses (habituation). We investigated possible habituation of cardiac autonomic responsiveness and susceptibility to cardiac arrhythmias in male rats exposed to either intermittent social victory (VIC) or defeat (DEF) stress (10 exposures in each case).
