The article presents a website project as an example of how educational technology can help students develop literacy. In the project, students in an urban elementary school entered a contest in which they worked together to design a website. The author comments on how students utilized family and cultural knowledge for the project, developed computer literacy and learned to use software through their participation. They created a website focusing on Mexican cultural heritage and used both English and Spanish languages during the project. The author notes how one of the students included fiction and Spanish language resources on the website
