Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) -1 Tat protein plays an indispensable role in viral gene transcription. Tat is reported to produce a favorable environment for viral replication by modulating a variety of cellular processes. A vast amount of literature is available on the function and effects of Tat, however; intracellular regulation of Tat protein is not precisely understood. In this study, degradation of HIV-1 Tat protein was studied in detail. Tat was predominantly localized to the cell nucleus and nucleolus.
