The purpose of this document was to provide a basic guide for piano instructors and performers about the undesirable experience of performance anxiety. The study surveyed the history, current thought, definition, diagnosis, and causes and effects of performance anxiety. Current treatments and therapies for performance anxiety, such as systematic desensitization, relaxation techniques, prescription drugs and alternative or homeopathic aids are examined. The final chapter consists of a conclusion, bibliography, and appendices of treatment facilities
