The dichotomy between major/minority languages and its political and social implications, which is prevalent in multilingual societies, is a question of language policy. Nigeria is a multilingual country that has adopted the English language as its official language, and Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa as major languages. These languages are compulsory subjects in the school curriculum to be taught all over the country.
