Le due possibili glogalizzazioni

Globalization is usually understood as a unique process and the discussion turns around the question whether to attribute positive or negative value to it. Here I propose a different approach distinguishing between oppositive globalization, which produces levelling out and uniformity, and solidarity globalization, which increases each unique identity through a process of polarization of differences. To interpret the second type of globalization I take into consideration the process of formation (Bildung) of the personal identity following the Christian tradition. My point of departure consists in the observation that the problem of our present “occidental” societies derives not from being besieged by external “enemies”, but from having deprived, in their inside, the formation of the personal identity of its due space, and thus having led to unilateral standardization of success models.
