A further development of a new method recently proposed for the direct measurement of the conversion ratio (CR) of T4 to T3 in man is presented. [125I]T4 and [131I]T3 are injected simultaneously, and Sephadex chromatography is performed on urine samples to determine [125I]T3 formed in vivo, while plasma samples are used to measure the injected tracers. CR is calculated with the assumption that urinary [125I]T3 closely reflects [125I]T3 appearing in plasma after the injection of precursor [125I]T4.
