Corruption is a global concern and requires attention because of its detrimental effects on economic growth and development. This dissertation includes three different essays that identify some of the instruments that can be used to fight corruption. The first essay investigates whether women\u27s presence in economic and political arenas can have a significant impact on corruption. It finds evidence that while women\u27s presence in parliament does reduce corruption other measures of female participation in economic activities are shown to have no effect.
