Successful Reading Comprehension Strategies for Beginner Readers

This research examines the different reading comprehension strategies that students can use in order to be successful at reading comprehension. The strategies discussed in this research project were chosen based on the research available and the success rates of the strategies. Numerous strategies will be introduced and examined in order to provide both teachers and parents with guidelines to follow when they teach students about reading comprehension. If reading for meaning is the goal for students and teachers, more emphasis should be placed on the teaching of successful reading comprehension strategies. The findings of this research culminate in a unit plan designed to teach comprehension strategies. The unit developed does two things: one, it educates teachers and students on a number of strategies to use in reading comprehension, whether or not the student is a struggling reader, and two, it uses fables and fairy tales to pique students\u27 interest and imagination as well as open up room for discussion on character and moral education
