Family Presence during Resuscitation Attempts

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including a heart attack or near drowning, in which someone\u27s breathing or heartbeat has stopped (Mayo Clinic, 2019). When this traumatic event happens, the nurses and physicians main focus is the patient and bringing them back to life. But what about the family members of the patient? Family presence during resuscitation attempts correlates with better quality patient outcomes when the resuscitation is successful, better familial coping with less likeliness of long term depression in family members if the resuscitation is not successful, and the family presences offers an extra layer of accountability for nurses, physicians and all other medical personnel participating in the event.
