Problem: Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury (CI-AKI) is responsible for 10% of acute kidney injury episodes acquired in hospital patients. And it is the third leading cause of hospital-acquired acute kidney injury and with a mortality rate of 20%. Project: Is to find preventive measures to decreases CI-AKI. Solution: Research has shown that hydration and acetylcysteine (NAC) prior to contrast enhance CT can reduce the incidence of CI-AKI. Using NAC is low cost and ready availability, ease of administration by both the oral route and an intravenous injection with limited side effects.
