Personal Care Aide Training: Setting Standards in Long Term Service and Support

Colorado\u27s in-home care agencies are required to provide training for employees, however, there are currently no standardized training measures defined in State regulations (Department of Healthcare Policy and Financing 2014). The lack of standardized training requirements creates wide-variance in the training, job duties and role expectations of the non-clinical caregiver. The Personal Care Aide Training curriculum is a proposed set of minimum training requirements consisting of personal care and safety curriculum. Personal care measures such as Grooming and Bathing and safety measures such as Transfer and Lifts work in conjunction to ensure the care and safety of the patient. In collaboration with long term service and support experts, eight minimum training requirements for the PCA Training curriculum were developed
