Alcohol is one of the most used drugs amongst young adults. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) found in a 2017 national survey that 36.9% of young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 engaged on binge drinking in the past month. This is a concern because studies have showed that the developing brain, but especially the hippocampus, is vulnerable to the damaging effects of alcohol. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between binge drinking, gender, and hippocampal volume in young adults.
