Picturesque drawings by Alexander and Valery Traugot as phenomenon of the Leningrad book graphics

The article is devoted to the analysis of characteristic features of a creative method of brothers Alexander and Valery Traugot which has revealed in an illustration of the children’s fairy tale. The author in detail considers such aspects of a subject as, an influence of creativity of parents of artists — Georgiy Traugot and Vera Yanova, and also a number of the Western European masters, on the formation of individual Traugots style. Particular attention is paid to the role of color and line in creating the composition of the picture, their interaction and opposition, the combination of various artistic techniques. In this article, for the first time, an attempt is made to disclose the specifics of the creative interpretation of fairy tales and ways of visualizing intertext in the drawings of the brothers Traugot
