Our second study, Barriers to academic achievement for student Veterans: A qualitative study, was based on a thorough review of the literature about the challenges facing collegiate students who are also Veterans. A number of studies have found that Veterans generally engage in significantly more activities traditionally associated with student success than do their non-veteran counterparts. For example, student Veterans spend more time studying, are more likely to speak to professors, attend class more regularly, and are more involved with student groups.
