Unlike the User\u27s Guide, this document seeks to familiarize the reader with LISP in a non-technical way. Here, the history of LISP is presented, along with present day applications of the language, and an account of how the first University of Redlands LISP- interpreter came into being. LISP evolved in the period 1956-1962 through the efforts of Jonn McCarthy. Most of the key ideas were developed from Summer of 1956 through the Summer of 1953, while the programming language was actually implemented and applied to the problems in Artificial Intelligence from the Fall of 1953 through 1962. From 1962 to the present, LISP has been used for many different ideas in many different places
