The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the significance of the Prometheus archetype to the Romantic movement, and particularly to the more radical stream. First I will examine the relationship between the hero of Shelley\u27s Prometheus Unbound and his fellow rebel, the Satan of Paradise Lost, focusing upon the nature and objet of their respective rebellions. Then I will explore the aspects of Prometheanism in the novel, Jane Eyre, thus showing the Promethean imagination at work in an apparently non-revolutionary Romantic work. Finally, I will observe both the Prometheus archetype and the major aspects of Prometheanism operative in the field of romantic music
