The metamorphic and magmatic response to collision of a magmatic arc with the continental margin is one of the least understood processes in plate tectonics. Several responses can occur, including the extrusion of heated material out of the thickened crust and lower crustal melting leading to pervasive magmatism and metamorphism. This study studies both responses. In the central Peninsular Ranges of Baja California, the Main Mártir thrust (MMt) is a non-terminal suture that marks the Cretaceous collision zone between the Alisitos arc and the continental margin magmatic arc.
