This project involves scaling-up remote instrumentation use of an electron microprobe analyzer (EPMA) at the Florida Center for Analytical Electron Microscopy (FCAEM; https://fcaem.fiu.edu/). This allows for the transformation of courses into one that involves a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE). CUREs have the ability to improve students’ critical thinking, problem solving, and intellectual independence. CUREs also increase retention in STEM disciplines. This CURE has engaged 42 students over two semester at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU).
