Binge drinking is a widespread problem in the Unites States and has been linked to an increased risk for alcohol-related complications including the development of alcohol use disorders (King, de Wit, McNamara, & Cao, 2011). Therefore, understanding the underlying mechanisms of binge drinking may facilitate identification of therapeutic targets to prevent the transition toward alcoholism.
