Summarization: The accidental release of organic contaminants in the form of non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) into the subsurface is a widespread and challenging environmental problem. Successful remediation of sites contaminated with NAPLs is essential for the protection of human health and the environment. One technology that has received significant attention is the injection of chemical additives (such as cosolvents) upgradient of the NAPL zone for the enhanced dissolution and mobilization of the NAPL mass.
