Summarization: The multiple description coding framework is well-suited for the transmission of images in the presence of transmission errors. However, it has been mainly explored for idealized channels, where packets are either received correctly or not at all. In more realistic scenarios, bitstreams are affected by bit-level noise and error correcting codes must be employed. In the proposed scheme, the input image is decomposed into wavelet coefficients that are encoded using lattice vector quantization for the generation of multiple descriptions.
