Summarization: Olive tree prunnings, one lignite and their blend were burned in a lab-scale fluidized bed facility, at different air/feed ratios. Emissions of CO, SO 2 and NO x were measured and combustion efficiency was determined. Fly ashes and bed material were characterized in terms of mineralogical, chemical and morphological analyses and the slagging/fouling and agglomeration propensities were obtained. Control methodologies for mitigating ash problems were applied, using innovative mineral additives during combustion. The results indicated that when co-combusting lignite and olive tree prunnings SO 2 and NO x emissions were reduced, as compared to combustion of lignite.
