This study seeks to provide a review on gamification regarding education and language teaching; gamification is the use of game mechanics in context different from games (Kiryakova, 2017). Games have a number of necessary characteristics, divided into game elements, such as points, storytelling, progression, freedom of choice, among others. In gamified education some of these features are used in the classroom to achieve specific outcomes relevant to the class (Marczewski, 2013).
